"Gudeg”. It’s a traditional dish made of young jackfruit stewed with coconut milk, palm sugar, teak leaf and several kinds of spices such as garlic, bay leaves, coriander, and other ingredients. The palm sugar and the teak leaf make the color of the jackfruit brown. Like other Javanese foods in central java, the taste of gudeg is rather sweet. Usually gudeg will be served in banana leaf with rice and accompanied by side dish e.g. stewed chicken & egg, sweet marinated tofu and tempe, beef skin stewed (rather hot because they add chilly). If we want to take it home, usually we can buy the one that is kept in small clay pot which is called “kendil”. Overall, this food offers an exotic taste.
