The meaning in English is “the overturned boat”. The legent recounts the forbidden love between Dayang Sumbi and Sangkuriang.

Sangkuriang is a handsome young man who returns to his village and meets Dayang Sumbi. They fall in love and decide to get married. However, he doesn’t know that Dayang Sumbi is actually his mother, who had been given eternal youth by the God.

Dayang Sumbi learns that Sangkuriang is her son and tries hard to avoid the marriage by asking him to make a dam in Citarum river and it should be completed before the sun rises. To complete the task, Sangkuriang uses his magical powers to complete the task in time, However, Dayang Sumbi waves her silk robe from the east side to make it apperar as if the sun is rising

Upon seeing this, Sangkuriang belives he has failed to complete the task and furiously kicks the boat upside down. Therefore, if we notice closely, the shape of the mountain really looks like an upside down boat.
