Kasongan
ImageHave you ever seen earthy, well built pots and ceramics in high-class furniture stores, or at large exhibitions from Kasongan ? Kasongan's handicrafts are eagerly sought the world over. Kasongan ceramics are sold at prices that make you wince since their price are very cheap. For example, a vase as tall as small child is sold for only Rp. 50.000,- ( USD 6,00).
Small ceramics items, all kinds of unique and interesting shapes representing horses, elephants, even Javanses women  are sold for around Rp. 15.000,- (less than USD 3,00).

A part from being a great place to shop, Kasongan, is an interesting place to visit in its own right, providing deep insights into the way crafts are produced in rural Java. Behind every shop, you wil find a traditional
ceramics worshop, where the craft speople will greet you with traditonal Javanese hospitality. Here you can watch how the creamics are made.
Kasongan ceremics have particular and specific appearance especially as regards their color. Most of them are remain in their natural red color. This color gives the pots a traditional, minimalist and highly artistic aura.

How can we get there ? Kasongan is a small village in the Bantul districs, around 10 km from Jogjakarta, Central Java. It takes approximately 15 - 20 minutes by car from Adi Sucipto Airport, Jogyakarta.
